Lilly

John has spent 30 years building and backing technology companies, from the earliest days of the web through the mobile era and beyond. As an Advising Partner at Gigascale Capital, he brings operating experience honed across every stage of company building as a founder, CEO, and investor, to help portfolio companies navigate the journey from breakthrough to scaled infrastructure.

John spent 8 years as a General Partner at Greylock, where he led investments in Instagram, Dropbox, Figma, Tumblr, and Quip. He currently serves on the boards of Figma, Duolingo, and Nuro. Before investing, he was CEO of Mozilla, where he led Firefox to more than 450 million users worldwide. Earlier, he co-founded Reactivity, an enterprise security company acquired by Cisco Systems, where he served as founding CEO and later CTO. He has also held roles on Apple's research team and the executive team at Trilogy Software.

He is a Lecturer at Stanford's Graduate School of Business and is involved in civic technology through VotingWorks. John holds both a BS in Computer Systems Engineering and an MS in Computer Science from Stanford with a focus on Human-Computer Interaction.
